This isn’t their first app and their marketing team is smart they titled it “The Arcana - A Mystic Romance” to likely capitalize on people searching for Mystic Messenger as this subtitle is seen nowhere else. Nix Hydra Games is a company that acquired $5.6 million in funding in 2014.That funding was not for The Arcana (which didn’t begin development until 2016), I point this out only to demonstrate that Nix Hydra is not a struggling indie company. My goal with this piece is to educate and urge consumers to hold all companies to a higher standard in the mobile games industry.

I'm more than thrilled that this is coming to Steam and I can't wait to get back into this (I just don't like playing on my PS3 no more).I’m going to talk about and its company’s business practices.
#Arcana app game series
All in all, the game is very balanced and honestly fun but the series gets overshadowed or overlooked because of the aesthetics of the game looks. Honestly, I feel the combos in this game are a lot more easier to do but harder to master than some of the other fighting games I play because of how an arcana plays a role in everything you do and act. Experiment with it.Įxtend Force Cancel is another form of cancelling your normals & specials to go into Extend Force. Because of this, some properties of your character movements & attacks will change. The twist is that the effects of your Extend Force is dependant on the arcana you've chosen. This is this games version of the "Overdrive" system in BlazBlue or "X-Factor" in UMVC3 but with a twist. Each homing cancel takes away one bar of your super meter. Just like in Guilty Gear, it's usage is dependant on your super meter. This is this games version of the "Roman Cancel" in Guilty Gear. There are some things you'll find similar in this game in comparison to BlazBlue & Guilty Gear: You have 23 characters to choose from and 23 arcanas to partner up with which makes for some huge customizations in terms of your playstyle but even so, certain arcana's just "fit" with a character than others but again, that all depends on "your" playstyle. In terms of mechanics for this game, I would say this game is close to BlazBlue but even saying that is kinda pushing it. I'm laughing at whoever said this was a "button masher". The pinned thread at the top of the discussions page gives good examples of this game's depth.

It's not broken since both players can do this and there's more to it but you get the idea. It's like using Ragna the Bloodedge and fighting a Mu-12 who's zoning is too solid for you to get around, if the Ragna player could pick the Lightning or Fire Arcana, Ragna would have a projectile to help him get in, covering his intended weakness. This game has "Roman Cancels" and airdashes and more mechanics and options than the two big games I just mentioned and plays simliar to Guilty Gear and BlazBlue with the homing mechanic added to the mix and arcana system to add an "alchemy" to your playstyle. We all know fighters are only simple if you're not playing with experienced players but as many average gamers that picked up MKX or SF IV, because they're mainstream, noticed when they got online, the matches felt like they were playing against super computer AIs with skill ceilings most gamers don't feel dedicated to get too. Listen to this guy!! I mean read his comment. Originally posted by shaowebb:This is anything BUT a button masher. I've seen them toss this in front of the corner and pressure someone to death so that after every knock down they have to guess high low or throw because if they tech roll forward they have to eat the high low mixup to nigh unblockable of the kunai firing off as they go for an overhead. Want Oki? Okay.one character throws a ring of kunai on the ground and can summon them to rocket up at any time. I can super jump above you, double tap homing dash to dash in faster, but gain the ability to steer it at will just so I can zig zag left and right above you for ambiguos crossups.

Plus you can clash moves, you have bursts, you have guard cancels.tons of options.īutton masher? Not even close. More special moves (lasers, homing fireballs, teleports, etc)Īnd even a custom Xfactor-like ability called "extend force"Įach arcana has a list of stuff and you can add pretty much a whole character's worth of tools to any character in the game. You can customize every single character's base moveset with your choice arcana which gives them: This essentially turns EVERYONE into Magneto. You have homing dashes and can use these to dash cancel moves.
